Since 2004, our goal has been to improve the lives of homeless populations. We began in Delaware with transitional housing and relocated to North Carolina, and now providing single permanent affordable housing.

History

SPIRITUAL AWAKENING MINISTRIES INC (DBA SAM NC INC) SAM NC, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization since February 23, 2004, located in eastern North Carolina.

We are a faith-based 501c3 Nonprofit Charitable Organization. SAM NC is overseen by a Board of Directors.

Historically, groups of extremely dedicated people have had huge impacts on the world. These individuals have often been able to rally others to their cause and make real change. While we may not be able to match the scale of some of history’s biggest movements, we are intentional in ensuring that our dedication and commitment will help us make a positive impact in our way. We have a history of providing resources or referrals, housing, and training, such as life skills, job preparedness, basic computer skills, financial literacy, GED training, and/or coaching to these populations so they can be productive members of society.

PROBLEM WE AIM TO SOLVE

Housing is priced out of reach of the most vulnerable among us – Veterans living with disabilities and earning very low wages. Homelessness is a plight that silently destroys communities and the people with unmet needs within them. Funding that is available limits huge revenue returns; therefore, for-profit organizations don’t put their resources out. SAM NC fills the voids and is willing to provide single unit housing for the amount allowed by the Veterans Administration and HUD.

Project Summary: Experiencing homelessness is traumatic for anyone, regardless of the circumstances. However, it is especially poignant when the individual is a military Veteran, or someone living below the poverty line and identified as low-income. Creating affordable housing while addressing homelessness is the overarching goal of Spiritual Awakening Ministries Inc. The initiative, Rehoboth, calls for federal, state, and local agencies, as well as community groups, to collaborate to ensure homelessness is “infrequent, fleeting, and limited to a single time.”

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE VETERANS IN NC?

Veterans make up just 7% of the general population but account for 13% of the homeless population.

One in five homeless males is a veteran. Lack of Affordable Housing is one of the top causes of homelessness for veterans. The amount of funding or assistance allowed for housing is lower than what landlords and housing developments accept.

Spiritual Awakening Ministries – We have secured site acquisition and are developing new housing construction, including handicap-accessible and affordable housing for veterans and low-income individuals in Pitt County, NC. We will be the first to provide housing with a commitment to accept HUD-VASH allowances or Choice Vouchers in partnership with the Mid-East. We have over seven years of experience providing transitional housing and supportive services.

PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE RENTAL HOUSING

Inadequate social services are also a major factor in increasing the rate of homelessness. Many face a range of physical and mental health issues and require specialized services to help them. Spiritual Awakening Ministries will provide housing in collaboration with the Raleigh, N.C. The Veterans Administration HUD-VASH Program will provide Support Services for our veterans and families. We will assist those in our housing with attending medical and mental health appointments, provide resource(s) assistance with the completion of documentation, and work hard to provide advocacy ensuring we assist our residents to get all the Veterans Administration or Social Services needed as well as their benefits; in partnership with the Greenville Veterans Affairs Health Care Center and local medical resources that are available.

We have been charged by God to maintain relationships whether with Him, our siblings, or our Spouse. Through the use of His Word, we are encouraged to maintain these relationships by imparting into them. We are also charged to maintain a relationship with the entire body of Christ, which is essential in order to defeat any hindrances we face. By doing so, we can conquer and prevail over any obstacles that come our way. Ultimately, these actions will help us to surmount any imaginations of what could be holding us back from living our best life. In short, God has given us everything we need to maintain healthy and thriving relationships. What we do with that information is up to us.

Recovery Support

Spiritual Awakening Ministries Inc., is comprised of peer-driven services. These persons will assist in creating and maximizing the ability for persons to be assets to self and the community in which they reside.
